    The Collection Development Department of the University of North Texas Libraries is seeking to hire a Licensing and Accessibility Librarian (LAL) to work collaboratively with department, division, and other library personnel to perform licensing and contract negotiations for the library, assess accessibility of library resources, and advances the strategic directions of the library and university.

    Summary of position

    The Licensing and Accessibility Librarian reports to the Head of Collection Development in the Collection Development Department of the Collection Management Division. This position is responsible for collaboratively negotiating library contracts and ensuring those contracts meet all applicable state laws, adhere to UNT policy, and advance library needs. Alongside another librarian, the LAL helps create and maintain documentation and uses the Sierra ILS and ERM to record metadata and contract information. The LAL evaluates the accessibility and online security of library resources and works collaboratively with ITSS and other university departments to ensure materials adhere to required standards. The LAL will collaborate with other Collection Development personnel to carry out complex acquisitions.  

    Position Responsibilities

    Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

    • Reviews and negotiates licenses and contracts for new library resources, multi-year, and/or transformative agreements. 
    • Analyzes and interprets complex information pertaining to library licenses and contracts and creates easy to understand summaries for internal and external stakeholders. 
    • Builds and maintains strong professional relationships and communications with vendors to negotiate to obtain favorable terms and conditions.
    • Maintains the recency of all library licenses and contracts through an annual review process and updates any contracts as needed.
    • Creates and maintains detailed, accurate, and relevant documentation and records for library contracts acquisitions.
    • Maintains, updates, and assesses workflows for contracts-related tasks. Including updates to applicable Texas State Law and UNT Office of General Counsel policy and procedure.
    • Keeps abreast of trends and developments in library contracts; share information with colleagues as needed; and represents UNT Libraries in appropriate consortia.
    • Obtains and reviews accessibility documentation and online security information for new and existing library resources and works with ITSS to ensure products meet state and University standards.
    • Participates in scholarly, professional, and service activities that enhance collection development activities and promote scholarly communication. Serves on library and university workgroups and committees.
    • Fosters positive relations with faculty, students, and staff.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required qualifications

    The preferred candidate will possess the following minimum qualifications:

    • American Library Association accredited master's degree, or equivalent.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Familiarity with library acquisitions landscape.
    •  Familiarity with licensing and contract terms.
    • Ability to build effective work relationships.

    • Familiarity with accessibility standards or compliance.
    • Documented success at negotiation.
    • Experience with documentation involving technical topics.

    Salary and Rank

    Entry salary for rank of Assistant is $63,554; Associate $68,054; Full $74,354 with rank and hiring salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.  Librarian rank will be determined by the Library Personnel Affairs Committee through review of the selected candidate's education, experience, scholarly and professional involvement, and service.
