    Manages a unit within a department.  Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures for the unit.  Represent the unit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters.  Supervises subordinate staff.

    About the Department and/or College

    Texas Tech University Libraries serve as a vital partner with students and faculty in their learning endeavors. The University Libraries' system comprises: (1) University Library, (2) Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library, (3) Architecture Library, and (4) Peters Family Legacy Library. The University Library is a patent and trademark depository and is one of two regional depositories for U.S. government documents in Texas. The central focus of the Texas Tech University Libraries is to make available 3.72 million physical volumes, electronic resources, special collections and archives, and to offer services to students and faculty that enable academic and research success.

    Major/Essential Functions

    • Oversee the scheduling, operation, and maintenance of the Texas Tech Libraries Recording and Podcast Studios.
    • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Libraries Recording and Podcast Studios, including but not limited to establishing daily game plans and end-of-day reports.
    • Maintain and update studio equipment and software as necessary.
    • Operate professional studio recording equipment and professionally conduct recording sessions.
    • Schedule and organize all studio sessions, serving as a liaison with patrons throughout the process to ensure that both patron recording and studio needs are met.
    • Facilitate the recording, mixing, and reproducing of patron sound projects.
    • Help establish and maintain Libraries Recording and Podcast Studios policies and procedures in collaboration with the Librarian.
    • Serve as a member of the User-Centered Services Operational Team.
    • Manage student training, work schedule, time sheets, pay, and budget in collaboration with the Librarian.
    • Hire, train, and evaluate full-time staff and student assistants in collaboration with Librarian.
    • Develop and deliver recording-related instruction and workshops in collaboration with the Librarian.
    • Serve as customer service contact point for library patrons using Libraries Recording and Podcast Studios.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Demonstrates proficiency with current recording technologies in order to facilitate recording sessions promptly from start to finish.
    • Stays informed with new techniques and standards.
    • Understands hardware and software integration.
    • Effectively coordinate and publish schedules promptly.
    • Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Demonstrates flexibility in work assignments.
    • Works with high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent customer service skills with 1-3 years experience.
    • Excellent supervisory skills with 1-3 years experience.

    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree plus three years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal seven years.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Degree in Sound Recording Technology or related field.
    • Specialized recording equipment usage, maintenance, and upkeep, including but not limited to outboard sound processors, microphones, and digital audio workstations.
    • Office management and collaborative tools, such as Microsoft Outlook suite, email, and other web-based applications as needed.
