    Below are the duties and responsibilities. 

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Responsible to the Director of Library Services for supervising all related duties in the Technical Services unit to carry out established objectives in the library. The Technical Services Librarian will assist in developing and implementing digital content to support digital and open-access projects. Must be proficient in current technology related to the academic library system, especially in the areas of cataloging, acquisitions, and serials. Must maintain the confidentiality of all information and must be able to work flexible hours including nights and weekends. 

    Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Trains and evaluates personnel in the Technical Services unit. 
    2. Develops and maintains processes for cataloging, acquisitions, serials, archiving, and other technical operations. 
    3. Keeps accurate records of database upgrades, and prepares statistics and reports to maintain accreditation standards and institutional effectiveness. 
    4. Recommends institutional effectiveness goals per library objectives and participates in planning library policies and procedures.
    5. Serves as a liaison for faculty and instructional departments to assist in coordinating collection development, accreditation, and policy making.  
    6. Serves on library and college committees participates in professional development activities, and serves on other committees as needed. 
    7. Assists library users by answering reference questions, helping locate materials within the library, explaining the use of library equipment and facilities, and advising users of library policies and regulations. 
    8. Assists with bibliographic instruction and conducts library tours as needed. 
    9. Catalogs classifies and edits print and non-print materials according to local, state, and national standards (RDA, AACR2, Library of Congress Subject Heading, and MARC formatting) for inclusion in the library's catalog. 
    10. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the library staff, administration, faculty, and the public. 

    Required:

    • Master's of Library Science degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program. 
    • Minimum of two years experience in supervision/management.  
    • A minimum amount of original cataloging is required with knowledge of library serials and acquisitions services. 

     Preferred:

    • Professional experience in an academic library. 
    • Experience in digital content management.  
    • Experience in the procurement and maintenance process of library materials.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of library automated systems. 
    • Knowledge and skills in library technologies, including cataloging.  
    • Knowledge of the Library of Congress Classification System. 
    • Familiar with bibliographic standards and OCLC.  
    • Supervise a department with various staff.
    • Identify gaps in assessment and instruction.
    • Excellent oral and written skills are necessary.
