    SMU Libraries – Reference & Instruction Intern (2 Positions) 
     
    Job Summary: 
    SMU Libraries seeks to hire Reference & Instruction Interns to work 15-20 hours per week, in a hybrid environment, as part of a dynamic team of academic librarians. 
     
    The primary goal of this program is to provide future librarians with authentic opportunities and support to become qualified for academic library jobs and start them on a leadership track within the profession. 
     
    Interns gain professional library experience by offering high-quality reference service and teaching library instruction sessions. With the guidance of professional librarians who will mentor them, interns will join various teams that match their interests and work on projects that will provide practical opportunities and growth in academic librarianship. 
     
    The ideal candidates will be user-focused, service-oriented, and enjoy working in a highly collaborative, team-based environment.Candidates should demonstrate openness to exploring and implementing new ideas and practices. We value diverse experiences and creativity, and we strive to foster an open and supportive work environment. 
     
    Essential Functions: 
    • Deliver general reference service through chat. 
    • Offer information literacy instruction and consultation services as part of the First Year Writing Team. 
    • Participate in one or more teams, such as research guides, online learning, or scholarship and research. 
    • Join us on-campus for meetings, classes, and events.

    Practicum credit may be applied, check with your school if this would be applicable. 
     
    Pay: $16 an hour
