    Brief Description:  Manage the staff, services, and facilities, and oversee all aspects of public services of Marshall Public Library.  Provide support to library patrons to meet their educational, informational, and recreational needs.

    Essential Functions

    1. Oversee all aspects of public services. Initiate, plan, direct, and manage library programs, resources, and services.  Monitor staffing to proactively meet patron and community needs.  Develop, plan, and implement the library's strategic plan as well as library policies and procedures. Participate in the activities of the Board of Trustees and Friends of a Public Library organization.  Attend and participate in city staff and city council meetings as appropriate and/or required. Act as working supervisor of the library in the absence of the Library Director.  
    1. Initiate, develop, promote, and conduct children, teen, and adult programming in coordination with library staff and in response to community needs. Coordinate cooperative outreach initiatives, and collaborate with community organizations and educational institutions to provide programming. Maintain communication with area school districts, colleges, and community agencies utilizing effective public relations to extend and increase awareness of the library's programs, resources, and services. 
    1. Oversee processing, maintenance, and organization of print and digital library materials and resources. Participate in collection development by assessing the existing library collection and making decisions on materials that need to be added, replaced, repaired, or withdrawn.  Manage the selection of databases and other online resources. Contact publishers, dealers, and library software vendors when needed.  
    1. Provide reference and readers' advisory services. Provide assistance to patrons accessing online and/or print resources either individually or in a group setting.  Respond to patron inquiries and concerns and interpret policies to resolve them.  Interact with library patrons and assist in selecting print and/or online materials to meet their educational, informational, and/or recreational needs. Train staff in the use of library resources.  Oversee the test proctor program. 
    1. Manage the care and maintenance of library building and grounds. Shelve and shelfread in assigned section daily, applying collection development standards. Provide appropriate library services over the telephone. Process applications for library cards, create patron records, and maintain accuracy and confidentiality of patron records. Assist at the circulation desk. Perform any necessary daily function when primary person is absent.  Perform additional duties as apparent and/or as assigned.   

    Job Requirements

    • Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited library school. Bilingual preferred.
    • Minimum of two years' professional experience in a public library. 
    • Minimum of two years in a supervisory and management capacity as a professional librarian. 
    • Exhibit public service attitude and effective interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) with library patrons as well as city and other government officials, employees, vendors, community groups, and the general public. Ability to work closely with others in a team environment. 
    • Maintain awareness of best practices, policies, and principles of professional library work.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software, social media platforms, and general office equipment. Must be able to rapidly learn and perform tasks, manage multiple ongoing tasks, and effectively use library software. 
    • Must pass a medical examination and drug screening as authorized by law and have a valid Texas Class C driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
      Salary: $3,669.47 - $4,134.00 Monthly
