    The Hewitt Public Library is seeking a full-time Library Specialist for Teen Services! The ideal candidate has an interest in trends and services that appeal to ages 11-17, but isn't shy about working with all ages.     Salary: $19.62 hourly (non-exempt)

    Job Summary

    Under the direct supervision of the Library Director, the Teen Services Specialist is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing programs and activities for ages 11 to 17. This position assists with implementing Library policies and procedures, delivering services to the general public, and circulating materials.

    Coordinates, plans, and administers library programs, events, and activities for ages 11 to 17, both in-person and online, that advance the Library's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.

    Assist in coordinating the Summer Reading Program, including planning, preparing, and conducting special programming across all age groups.

    Leads the Hewitt Public Library's Teen Advisory Board by communicating with teen visitors, recruiting new members, and organizing special events for the board.

    Recommends titles and other materials to be added to the collection.

    Collects, compiles, and reports statistics related to program attendance, return on investment, and overall success of Teen Services.

    Monitors library trends, best practices, and developments in the profession. Shares knowledge and makes recommendations to the Library Director.

    Performs clerical duties, including operating the circulation desk, handling cardholder records and payments, processing and shelving books, and assisting patrons with library resources.

    Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Ability to work collaboratively across the organization to improve library service delivery to the public.

    Ability to work pleasantly, professionally, and effectively with patrons, staff, coworkers, and other departments.

    Ability to work well under pressure and to meet inflexible deadlines.

    Effective communication, interpersonal skills, and flexibility when collaborating with library vendors, distributors, and the public.

    Effective communication using English. Must read, write, and understand English at a level appropriate to the position.

    Thorough knowledge of Library policies and procedures.

    Knowledge and ability to perform basic computer operations, troubleshoot problems, manage an automated circulation system, and access external databases.

    Proficiency in computers, Internet research, and common office application software.

    Creativity, open-mindedness, and a positive energy are an asset.

    Knowledge of City policies and procedures.

    Ability to be flexible with the work schedule.

    Expected Hours of Work

    The scheduled days to work are Tuesday-Saturday.

    The employees' schedule must be flexible to meet the needs of the Library, including evenings and weekends.  

    Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

    High school diploma or GED.

    Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, physical, criminal background check, and MVR check.

    Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

    Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications

    A Master of Science Degree in Library Science is preferred.

    Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
