    Position Description :
    This paraprofessional position holds responsibilities that may involve supervision of a work unit and/or the undertaking of specialized work requiring a high level of expertise, such as cataloging or processing of manuscript collections. Independent judgment and a comprehensive knowledge of tasks are used to accomplish the mission of the unit. Work is performed under general supervision within established policies with latitude for independent judgment. Evaluation is based upon a review of completed work and overall results obtained.

    Major/Essential Functions :
    Process interlibrary loan and document delivery requests received through interlibrary loan software and its components efficiently and accurately.
    Search for information on requested items in the library catalog, library databases, available online resources, and interlibrary loan software and its components, including in depth online searches for hard to find items.
    Prioritize and aid the processing of requests through automated systems. Communicate with patrons and other libraries via email, on the phone, and in person. Provide excellent customer service and assist student assistants with difficult patrons.
    Manage overdue notices and billing, both for Texas Tech patrons and other libraries. Coordinate searches for claimed returned,
    missing, and not on shelf items. Cover the Document Delivery office until 7 pm one night a week or as needed.
    Process and prepare physical items for delivery to their intended patrons, including updating, marking, shelving and shipment as applicable. Prepare and assist with deliveries to departmental offices, branch libraries, and off-site locations.
    Manage shipment of items to other libraries and distance patrons through a variety of couriers. Retrieve and process items from Remote Storage as needed.
    Account for remaining active transactions at the end of each day and provide accurate end of day reports detailing such.
    Participate in cross-training and assist with other units' workflow as requested.
    Help train, oversee, evaluate, and serve as an example for the unit's student assistants, including assisting with the student workflow as needed.
    Process course reserves requests received through the course reserves request system. Post courses and reading lists with accurate citations in a timely manner to be accessible to students one week before classes start or as soon as possible thereafter.
    Serve as faculty liaison throughout the requesting process and work with faculty to procure the necessary information and items to be placed on reserve. Request items for purchase through Acquisitions as needed.
    Ascertain copyright feasibility for scans to be posted electronically and ensure that high quality scans or stable URLs are accessible. Request scans as needed.
    Process physical items so they are clearly marked and organized. Regularly review the shelf to ensure organization. Remove items as needed and have them returned to the shelves or respective faculty member.
    Assist with other projects as requested.

    Required Qualifications :
    Bachelors' degree in related field and one year related experience; knowledge and competencies of Microsoft Office. Relevant specialized work experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis. Additional job related education may substitute for required experience on a year for year basis. Ability to learn and work with computer applications unique to libraries or archives.
