Position Description
Harris County Public Library - Katy Branch Library
This position is responsible for identifying and interpreting user needs; planning and implementing a variety of children's programs to encourage library usage and to foster community relations; providing exceptional customer service, reference, and readers' advisory; and assisting Library patrons in the use of library services, facilities, and equipment. Exemplify the high standards and expectations for the library system in its daily operations and services.
Duties & Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate, and promote children's services and programs, including summer reading and other special events

Identify information needs in the community and plan and provide services to meet these needs

Provides reader's advisory and reference services

Develop a highly-visible public relations program for children's services in the community

Develop an engaging and attractive children's library collection through awareness of current children's literature

Attend staff meetings, activities, and/or professional conferences, and actively serve on committees

Implement knowledge of current trends in children's services and programs
-
Performs other duties as assigned

Harris County Public Library (HCPL) - History
What began in 1921 and the years following as a collection of small libraries housed in stores, post offices and private homes has grown into a system of 26 branch buildings, 2 technology service centers, and 2 partner locations offering collection/circulation services. HCPL operates branches in unincorporated parts of Harris County and cities which do not have their own library systems.

Work Environment:

This job typically operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. At times, work can be performed in an outdoor environment and possible exposure to inclement weather or various temperature changes. There could be exposure to dangerous or aggressive/adverse populations.
Employment is contingent upon passing a background check.
