Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Technical Processing, the Electronic Resources Coordinator manages all aspects of the library electronic resources life cycle and researching and implementation of new library electronic resources. This position will also liaise with the district libraries and support the Learning Commons while adopting a district perspective in line with the One College goal.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements*

  • Manages various aspects of acquisition and implementation of new electronic resources, including the Electronic Data Interchange/Application Programming Interface (EDI/API) configuration for ordering and invoicing, licensing, payment, and trials utilizing the Integrated Library System (ILS)
  • Manages existing library electronic resources subscriptions in the ILS
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date metadata and representation of electronic resources in the ILS and the discovery layer by importing MARC records
  • Closely follows relevant updates to the ILS and regularly re-evaluates existing procedures and best practices for maximum efficiency
  • Develops and maintains relationships with electronic resources vendors, which allows them to review account statements and status reports, discuss operational concerns, and investigate new products and services
  • Liaises with the Library Directors regarding all aspects of electronic resources and addresses requests for new resources, renewals, or cancellations
  • Regularly gathers usage statistics, including configuration of the Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative (SUSHI) harvesting in the ILS
  • Evaluates databases for alignment with the TCC database rubric before subscribing, and discuss any concerns, recommended improvements, or changes with their supervisor
  • Prepares reports necessary for continuous assessing existing electronic resources subscriptions, such as content overlap and cost-per-use reports
  • Troubleshoots electronic resources access issues and works with relevant partners towards resolution (district IT, vendor support, ILS support, etc.)
  • Engages in professional development activities to stay informed about new services and products relevant to TCC’s libraries/Learning Commons
  • General Supervision and Management
  • Supervises directly reporting support staff
  • Serves in place of the Director of Technical Processing in their absence

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or another related field from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program
  • Three (3) years of working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
  • One (1) year experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating the performance of others; leading projects or processes)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in acquisitions or electronic resources in an academic library
  • Experience cataloging
  • Experience negotiating contracts for new and renewed electronic resources
  • Experience with Ex Libris systems: Alma, Primo
  • Familiarity with HTML5, CSS3 (including flexbox), and JavaScript (including AngularJS and jQuery)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of MARC format and basic cataloging
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships with diverse populations, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication
  • Skilled using integrated library and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Ability to manage all aspects of the electronic resources’ lifecycle (EDI ordering and invoicing setup, order placement, vendor records import, claiming, and invoicing)
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse and urban
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables
