SUMMARY
Performs advanced and/or supervisory (senior-level) library work. This position manages the Reader Services department of the Talking Book Program. Reader Services provides library services via telephone, mail, and email to persons with disabilities that prevent them from reading standard print. Services provided include reader’s advisory, information and referral services, and reference research services. This department handles the majority of direct patron contacts for the division. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL TASKS
Coordinate workflow among departmental units providing statewide library services via telephone, mail, and email to persons with visual, physical, or learning (reading) disabilities.
Participate in development and planning for the Talking Book Program
Supervise professional and paraprofessional staff
Oversee automation operations within the department
Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate operations and procedures for reading and disability information services.
Oversee direct interactions and engagement with patrons and their accounts.
Serve as liaison to State and Federal partners
Perform other duties as assigned.
Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety, standards of conduct

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA accredited program.
Three years of library experience, including two or more years as a professional librarian in reference work, online searching, reader’s advisory, cataloging and bibliographic control, and/or collection development.
One year of supervisory experience.
Experience working in an automated library environment.
Ability to handle complaints and resolve problems with tact and diplomacy.
Excellent communication skills: oral, written, and interpersonal
Ability to write proposals, policies, and/or procedures.
Skill in using the Internet for research purposes.
Basic knowledge of adaptive technology for print-disabled populations.
Thorough knowledge of books and general public reading interests.
Enthusiasm and interest in promoting library service for disabled readers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience providing library service to patrons with disabilities.
Experience working in a call center environment.
Experience using computerized statistical applications.
Experience creating and maintaining web pages, blogs, etc.
Experience in public speaking and public contact.
Supervisory experience in a library setting. 
Experience working in a public library. 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Complete college transcripts must be submitted at time of application.
Three writing samples from actual work experience and indicative of this position—such as procedures, newsletter columns, programming documents, book reviews, etc.-- must be submitted.
Some overnight travel may be required.
Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required with ability to accrue compensatory time.
