    Rowlett Public Library is looking for a Youth Services Librarian to round out our Public Services team. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, enthusiastic about bringing library services to young people in the community, and comfortable working with diverse populations including people of all ages, backgrounds, dispositions, and abilities.

     

    The standard work schedule for this position is approximately 36 hours per week over 4 days. It includes evening hours one night a week and two Saturdays a month. This is a full-time, eligible for benefits position.

     

    Essential Job Functions

    • Plans and implements programs aimed at school-aged children (6-17) including STEAM programs, Summer Reading initiatives, and collaborative activities with other city departments. 
    • Collaborates with members of the Public Services team in planning and implementing family programs and special events. 
    • Works with members of the Public Services team in promoting library children's services in the community, including outreach to schools and other organizations.  
    • Connects with parents and caregivers to help develop school-aged readers and lifelong learners. 
    • Maintains a current awareness of children's literature and services. 
    • Provides information assistance to library customers and is responsible for assigned areas of collection development. 
    • Keeps informed about professional trends, ethics, and best practices. 
    • Assists with reference and readers' advisory services; assists Wi-Fi and public computer users.
    • Demonstrates patience, tact, optimism, a friendly disposition, and the willingness to handle difficult patrons and situations.
    • Selects materials, places orders and maintains assigned collections. 
    • Performs related duties as required.


    Minimum Requirements

    Master's Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited school or university, plus 1-3 years' experience in library operations. Previous work in children's services or a public library is preferred.
