    Position Description

    This position is responsible for identifying and interpreting user needs; planning and implementing a variety of Children & Teen programs to encourage library usage and to foster community relations; providing exceptional customer service, reference, and readers' advisory; and assisting Library patrons in the use of library services, facilities, and equipment. Exemplify the high standards and expectations for the library system in its daily operations and services.

     

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Plan, coordinate, and promote Children & Teen services and programs, including summer reading and other special events

    • Identify information needs in the community and plan and provide services to meet these needs

    • Provides reader's advisory and reference services

    • Develop a highly-visible public relations program for youth services in the community

    • Develop an engaging and attractive Children & Teen library collection through awareness of current youth literature

    • Attend staff meetings, activities, and/or professional conferences, and actively serve on committees

    • Implement knowledge of current trends in youth services and programs

    • Coordinates Branch volunteers

    • Other duties as assigned

    Requirements

    Education & Experience

    • Master's of Library Science Degree

    • At least one (1) year of customer service experience

    • At least one (1) year working directly with children and teens

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

    • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)

    • Proficiency using Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)

    • Proficiency using the Internet and Microsoft Office 365

    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment

    • Ability to work well with public and staff members

    • Must use your personal mobile device for our Multifactor Authentication process

    Harris County Public Library (HCPL) - History
    What began in 1921 and the years following as a collection of small libraries housed in stores, post offices and private homes has grown into a system of 26 branch buildings, 2 technology service centers, and 2 partner locations offering collection/circulation services. HCPL operates branches in unincorporated parts of Harris County and cities which do not have their own library systems. 


    Location: 

    • South Houston Branch Library

    Hours:

    • Full-Time

    • 40 hours a week

    • Typical shifts are Day, Evening, Nights, Weekends, etc.

    Salary:

    • Paid Biweekly

    Physical Requirements:

    Some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.


    Work Environment:

    This job typically operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. At times, work can be performed in an outdoor environment and possible exposure to inclement weather or various temperature changes. There could be exposure to dangerous or aggressive/adverse populations.
    Employment is contingent upon passing a background check.
