    Southwestern University
    is accepting applications for the Digital Scholarship and STEM Research Librarian. This position provides a full range of research assistance to students, faculty, and staff; participates in the library's instruction program; and collaborates with department colleagues to continuously develop and refine the instruction program. The position is responsible for providing digital content to support information literacy instruction. This a full-time, fully benefited, exempt position that reports to the Director of the A. Frank Smith Jr. Library Center.

    Primary Duties:

            Assist with the development of digital resources collections, the evaluation of new and existing research tools, and make recommendations for purchase of, and renewal of, resources in collaboration with library colleagues.

            Keep abreast of trends and innovations in digital scholarship.

            Identify, develop and deliver patron instruction in the use of digital technologies.

            Offer and promote consultations, workshops, and support for faculty developing digital scholarship projects with library tools and technologies.

            Collaborate with library staff to strengthen programming, support, and materials related to Digital Scholarship, Open Education Resources (OER), User Experience (UX), and other digital initiatives

            Collaborate with campus departments and colleagues to promote digital scholarship.

            Provide in-depth individual consultations for students and faculty focused on information research tools and methods.

            Create lessons and library instruction using the ACRL's Information Literacy Framework

            Effectively complete information literacy assessment, meeting student learning objectives.

            Develop and implement library instruction plans, and work with colleagues to improve instructional quality and student success. Participate in all facets of the library's instruction program.

            Participate in assessing and curating library resources and collections, including routine reviews of print and electronic resource materials.

            Develop and maintain subject and course-specific online research guides on STEM topics.

            Collect, maintain, and report statistical data regarding digital resources and services to Library Administration. 

            Assist with the maintenance of the library website and updates.

            Coordinate and maintain content for web and mobile-enabled interactive services that provide a quality user experience. 

            Participate in a work culture that promotes diversity and anti-racism and actively works to eliminate or mitigate the effects of systemic racism and bias.

            Evening and weekend hours might be required. A regular evening reference shift will be a part of the schedule for this position.

            Perform other duties as assigned.

    Position Requirements:

            An MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library program.

            Background in supporting STEM programs and STEM research

            Advanced knowledge of electronic resources and databases.

            Demonstrated organizational skills, self-motivation, detail orientation, and diplomacy with effective interpersonal skills.

            Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team

            Evidence of ability to self-initiate and anticipate the needs of constituents

            Demonstrated professional manner with all constituencies, including strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, listening)

            Possess experience using word processing, spreadsheet, and databases software in a PC and/or Mac environment.

            Comprehension of the ACRL Information Literacy Framework

    Preferred Position Requirements:

            Professional library experience in an academic setting.

            Familiarity with HTML, XML, Java, CSS, etc. Experience with LiveWhale content management system is a plus.

            Undergraduate or additional graduate degree in a STEM-related field

            Experience with Moodle (or similar) classroom content management tools.

            Experience creating instructional aides, online tutorials, and videos.

            Understanding of the mission of small, private, liberal arts colleges.

            Experience with Google Apps for Education suite of products.
