    Position Summary:

    This position coordinates, organizes, maintains, and supervises the Library Information Desk (LID) operation in the Smith Library Center. This position is responsible for coordinating nonprofessional technical support, circulation, and desk reserve material functions requiring advanced technical and operational skills and general knowledge of practices and procedures for technical and library materials.

    Department: Library Services

    Primary Duties: 

    • Serve as the point of contact for students entering the library, and provide connections between support services and student needs.
    • Provide first-tier support for inquiries and SU community needs, fostering excellent patron satisfaction. 
    • Supervise, train, schedule, and assign work to students to ensure coverage and task completion at Library Information Desk.
    • Assist with Interviewing and hiring student workers.
    • Assist with the evaluation of student workers.
    • Manage routine workflow of the Library Information Desk.
    • Process assigned Library Answers tickets quickly and accurately for problem resolution. Assist with other assigned tickets from Information Technology when appropriate.
    • Create and process Pirate Cards for faculty, staff, students, alumni, and dependents.
    • Oversee and troubleshoot printers, scanners, copiers, and microfilm readers in SLC.
    • Create library patron accounts as needed and maintain records in an automated system.
    • Collect, record, reconcile receipts, and send payments to the University cashier.
    • Monitor the security system.
    • Interpret library policies and procedures for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
    • Promote library services to campus personnel.
    • Process library reserve materials, including creating brief title records in the library operating system.
    • Maintain the WorldShare Management Circulation Module
    • Run Reports on Library Information Desk services in library-related systems.  
    • Open and close the SLC building
    • Additional duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    • Some Undergraduate coursework
    • Knowledge of the functions of a library facility.
    • Ability to use computers and possess excellent skills with spreadsheets, word processing, and simple databases.
    • Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational and time, and management skills.

    ·         Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.

    ·         Experience working with the public with excellent customer service skills.

    • Ability to organize work and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to make independent decisions and exercise excellent judgment.
    • Ability to work evening hours and some weekends.
    • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
    • Possess the ability to apply tact, diplomacy, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
    • Ability to represent the Library and assist with campus events, especially those in the SLC, outside the normal work hours.
    • Ability to lift and move boxes up to 50 pounds.

    ·         Willingness to adhere to the University's core values.

    • Understanding of and commitment to a liberal arts education, including the ability to relate to a liberal arts faculty.

    Preferred Requirements:

    ·         Bachelor's Degree

    • Demonstrated prior experience solving computer technology problems.

    ·         Experience working in a library or technical support center.

    Work Supervision:

    This position may involve responsibility for others. (Student workers that assist with Access Services.)

    ·         Delegation of work.

    ·         Training.

    ·         Supervision of work.

    ·         Performance appraisal.
