    Position Description

    Performs advanced, specialized work to assist in the organization and implementation of various projects and programs. Work is performed under minimal supervision within established policies with latitude for independent judgment. Works on special projects as assigned.

    About the Department and/or College

    Texas Tech University Libraries serve as a vital partner with students and faculty in their learning endeavors. The University Libraries' system comprises: (1) University Library, (2) Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library, (3) Architecture Library, and (4) Peters Family Legacy Library. The University Library is a patent and trademark depository and is one of two regional depositories for U.S. government documents in Texas. The central focus of the Texas Tech University Libraries is to make available 3.72 million physical volumes, electronic resources, special collections and archives, and to offer services to students and faculty that enable academic and research success.

    Major/Essential Functions

    • Serves as shift lead and customer service escalation point for Primary Desk Staff and Student Assistants during the evening, weekend, and closing hours in the Texas Tech University.
    • Ensures the safety of the Library building and patrons for incidents.
    • Opens and closes the Library building.
    • Assists with the collection and analysis of assessment and statistical data for Access Services. Prepares statistical and written reports as needed which includes interpretation and analysis of data gathered.
    • Works in service areas providing exceptional customer service. Answers incoming phone calls and triages where appropriate. Maintains inventory of reserve items. Collects and enters statistical information of transactions outside of ALMA.
    • Ensures the safety of the Library building and patrons by coordinating with supervisors, emergency responders, and Operations Division. Opens and closes the Library building.
    • Assists with the implementation and maintenance of departmental SharePoint site and statistical dashboard.
    • Assists patrons with issuing TexShare cards, community eRaider and borrower's cards.
    • Participates in writing and updating Access Services policies and guides.
    • Monitors Access Services email inboxes.
    • Submits Access Services Work Orders, End of Day Reports, and Incident Reports as needed.
    • Serves on departmental Customer Service Team. Attends Library meetings, staff development workshops, and University training class sessions as needed. Completes special projects as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    Bachelors' degree in related field and four years library experience; knowledge and competencies of Microsoft Office. Relevant specialized work experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.  Additional job related education may substitute for required experience on a year for year basis. Ability to learn and work with computer applications unique to libraries or archives. Excellent customer services skills. Ability to follow library policies and procedures

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous library experience.
    • Knowledge of Integrated Library Systems.
    • Ability to effectively manage time.
    • Previous experience dealing with difficult customers.

    Pay Basis Hourly

    Minimum Hire Rate 18.48

    Pay Statement

    Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan by visiting www.depts.ttu.edu/hr/payplan.

    Travel Required Up to 25%
