    SUMMARY

    Responsible for cataloging, classifying and maintaining control over a wide range of digital, multimedia and paper-based records and historical documents in many formats.  Create and maintain finding aids in compliance with professional standards and encode finding aids using contemporary tools, including but not limited to archival descriptions (i.e., DACS, EAD and MARC).  Assist to develop policies and/or procedures and manage the acquisition, disposition, access to and safekeeping of archival materials.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

    1. Collect, organize and preserve materials of enduring and historical appraisal and make them accessible to students.
    2. Develop and implement procedures for the acquisition, processing, digitalization and preservation of archival materials and/or collections.
    3. Create and maintain finding aids utilizing archival descriptions or other contemporary tools.
    4. Assist to develop, implement and maintain archival databases, polices and/or standards.
    5. Advise and assist researchers in the use of archival materials in research activities; interpret requirements and consult on archival information.
    6. Proactively build partnerships with donors of archival collections, appraise potential collection additions, and make recommendations for acquisition of new collections and deactivation of existing collections.
    7. Collaborate with internal HCC departments to ensure a seamless life-cycle of records once they have met their retention period and are deemed permanent.
    8. Collaborate with internal and external customers to provide materials for exhibits, special collections and events.
    9. Train and supervise work study students and volunteers as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.  The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

    EDUCATION

    Master's degree required. 

    ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS/MSLIS; archival management concentration preferred.

    EXPERIENCE

    2 years experience working in archives, including managing collections, archival processing of physical and digital materials, and facilitating outreach required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    1. Proficient with MS Office Programs
    2. Advanced knowledge of Archival Standards, Records Management and Digital Archives.
    3. Must possess excellent organizational skills.
    4. Able to work in a team environment and manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
    5. Able to work in a large multicultural environment.
