    Position Description

    Department History Overview

    Harris County Public Library (HCPL) - History What began in 1921 and the years following as a collection of small libraries housed in stores, post offices and private homes has grown into a system of 26 branch buildings, 2 technology service centers, and 2 partner locations offering collection/circulation services. HCPL operates branches in unincorporated parts of Harris County and cities which do not have their own library systems.

    Brief Position Overview:

    Under the general direction of the Division Director for Programs, Partnerships, and Outreach, this position is responsible for supervising outreach staff in the Programs, Partnerships, and Outreach Division. This position is responsible Initiating, planning, and conducting a variety of programs and activities with mobile outreach vehicles and community events. This position develops partnerships within the community to support collaborative initiatives and provide library programs and services.

     Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Supervises Program, Partnerships & Outreach assigned staff

    • Manages mobile outreach services and partnerships to facilitate mobile library

    • services and programs

    • Organizes and coordinates system and branch outreach events with support from branch staff

    • Develops, implements, and communicates strategic plans for outreach programs embedded in the community

    • Fosters and coordinates outreach literacy services and initiatives

    • Develops and nurtures partnerships within the community to support collaborative initiatives and provide library programs and services

    • Other duties as assigned

    Requirements

    Education:

    • Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university

    Experience:

    • Three (3) years of Public Library experience with solid public service performance

    • Two (2) years of supervisory experience

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Excellent communication (verbal & written) and public speaking skills

    • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and modern technology

    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment

    • Ability to organize, delegate, train, and supervise

    • Ability to plan and implement programs and services to meet the changing needs of customers

    • Must use your personal mobile device for our Multifactor Authentication process

    General Information

    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

    • Full-Time | Regular – 40 hours a week

    • Monday - Friday

    • Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department.

    • Frequent evening and weekend work based on community events.

    Salary:

    • $38.25 Per Hour.

    • Paid Biweekly.

    Work Environment:

    • This job typically operates in a professional office environment.

    • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

    • At times, work can be performed in an outdoor environment and possible exposure to inclement weather or various temperature changes. 

    • There could be exposure to dangerous or aggressive/adverse populations.

    Physical Demands:

    • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
