Job Title: Children's Librarian III / Assistant Branch Manager
Annual Salary: $53,997 - $65,000
Shift Hours: Includes evenings & Saturdays, as assigned
Education, Experience and Skill Requirements:
- Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Previous professional library work experience including supervisory responsibilities.
- Previous experience with children's programming.
- Ability to accomplish objectives in a team setting.
- Good communication skills, oral and written.
- Knowledge and expertise with an automated system (SirsiDynix Symphony software preferred), Microsoft Office, Windows.
- Internet search skills.
- Valid Texas Driver's License and excellent driving record required.
- Must pass criminal background investigation.
Primary Job Duties:
- Acts as working supervisor to Branch activities in the absense of the Branch Manager.
- Supervises children's staff, including scheduling and evaluation.
- Performs Collection Development for children's collection, including evaluating, selecting, weeding, relocating and publicizing items in print, audio-visual or electronic formats.
- Provides reference and reader's advisory services for all ages, including online searching and instruction.
- Plans and coordinates children's services and programs, including summer reading.
- Maintains an awareness of professional trends, methods and ethics.
- Assists in budget development to meet unit and system goals.
- Attends and participates in professional activities, conferences and committees.
- Performs other work as needed.
