    The Research Services Librarian, as a team member and under intermittent supervision, provides research services and access services (circulation, interlibrary loan, and reserves) both in-person (service desks and offices) and virtually (chat, ticketing system, email, and phone) to West Texas A&M University students, faculty, staff, and community. Manages night and weekend staff in support of research and access services, library operations, and security during nights and weekends. Conducts liaison, committee, and other duties such as collection development, instruction, and creating research/instructional content. May works nights and weekends as needed. Reports to the Head of Research & Access Services.

    Responsibilities:

    Research Services: Provides research services both in-person (public desks and personal workspace) and virtually (chat, phone, email, and ticketing system) to students, faculty, staff, and community users, including citation assistance, using discretion and independent judgement:

    • Maintains knowledge of and assists users with research resources (e.g. databases, guides, library collections, etc.). Refers users to colleagues when appropriate.

    • Assists users through the finding and circulating of library materials; answering directional questions; and maintaining, troubleshooting, and providing assistance with Research and Access Services technology (e.g. computers, printers, copiers, etc.).

    • Participates in virtual and in-person library instructions, workshops, and marketing campaigns to instruct and market information literacy and library resources/services. May be occasionally required to travel to the Amarillo Center and other regional places.

    • Creates and maintains library guides, FAQs, videos, and other resources/services.

    Management:

    • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of unit policies and procedures. Assists the Head of Research and Access Services with the development, implementation, and assessment of unit policies and procedures, including manuals and training materials.

    • Hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates Library Associate I (Evening/Weekend) and 2-3 senior student-workers, cultivating a positive work environment through clear direction and communication.

    • Organizes and prioritizes tasks and projects in support of unit, library, and University goals.

    • Handles and/or appropriately refers issues in the absence of a supervisor using discretion and independent judgement.

    • Leads the night and weekend scheduling of the Research and Access Desk.

    • Responsible for library operations, security of the building and collections, and open/closing the library on evenings and weekends.

    • Prepares reports for both internal and external users.

    Collection Maintenance: Maintains library collections to promote access:

    • Maintains collections through evaluation, weeding, and selection of resources.

    • Assists with the maintenance of the loan, reference, youth, AV, paperback, recent acquisitions, and featured books.

    • Assists with missing and lost item procedures.

    • Assists with conservation treatments of library materials through binding and repair.

    Access Services: Supervises and provides access services in a back-up capacity using discretion and independent judgment and referring issues to the Head of Research and Access Services as needed:

    • Assists with the management of interlibrary loan user accounts, including the processing ILL fees and fines.

    • Assists with processing interlibrary loan borrowing, document delivery, and lending requests.

    • Assists with preparing, scanning, posting, and cataloging of print and electronic reserves.

    • Assists with maintenance of user accounts and records including contacting users with delinquent and suspended accounts, placing administrative holds, collections, processing refunds, and maintenance of associated files, reports and records.

    • Assists with cash handling, preparing and filing cash reports and daily deposits, processing Buff Gold Card deposits, and maintaining photocopy/guest card sales and records.

    • Assists with the guest network access program.

    • Monitors the electronic security system.

    Professional Development and Service:

    • Actively serves on, assuming associated duties and responsibilities, library, University, and professional committees that support Cornette Library's and West Texas A&M University's mission and goals.

    • Commits to learning and self-improvement, adding value to Cornette Library and West Texas A&M University, through attendance at Cornette Library's Professional Learning Community (PLC) and through other professional avenues such as conferences, webinars, podcasts, professional literature, and/or publishing.

    • Strives for excellence in all professional commitments, exhibiting resourcefulness, initiative, and professional judgement.

    Web Development: Assists with the development and management of the library's Springshare Suite and website using discretion and independent judgement:

    • Uses HTML, CSS, JavaScript, the Bootstrap framework, and other future web development standards and frameworks.

    • Maintains knowledge of and applies usability and accessibility standards.

    Necessary Qualifications:

    • MLS, MSLS, or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program

    • Two years of experience and/or coursework providing research and/or access services in an academic, large public library, or other related experience.

    • Knowledge in the use of library resources, including reference tools and the processes of research and information retrieval.

    • Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with others.

    • Ability to gather, analyze, and report data.

    • Adaptable/flexible with the ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment, while meeting deadlines.

    • Strong customer service ethic.

    • Experience using a wide variety of platforms, hardware, and software, including but not limited to: office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel), Microsoft Windows, ILL systems, Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and discovery services.

    • Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • One year of experience and/or coursework in instruction for online, blended, and/or traditional classes and utilizing learning methodologies and theories.

    • Two years of supervisory experience.

    • Experience utilizing Alma/Primo, OCLC WorldCat, and ILLiad.

    • Experience in web development and/or Springshare Suite of tools.

    • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in academic librarianship, scholarship, and/or technologies.

    • Familiarity with and dedication to creating accessible and user-friendly content, including familiarity with WCAG 2.1.

    • Knowledge of teaching methodologies and learning theories.

    • Knowledge of collection development principles.

    • Familiarity with U.S. copyright laws as it relates to libraries.
