    Job Summary:

    The Director for Organizational Excellence provides leadership for recruitment, retention, and robust professional development opportunities, while providing services that create an excellent work environment for library staff. The director is a member of the executive leadership team, providing ongoing counsel to library leadership related to organizational development and effectiveness. Provides vision, oversight and assessment for an innovative leadership development and organizational excellence program for UTA Libraries staff. Advances communication within University Libraries.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Coordinates library recruitment and retention activities in collaboration with UTA Human Resources partners and library stakeholders.
    • Promotes strong DEI practices within recruitment, retention, compensation, classification, and advancement. Fosters a culture of belonging and participatory leadership.
    • Advises library leaders and advances strategies for building and sustaining an excellent organizational climate for library colleagues.
    • Researches, evaluates, and interprets trends and emerging HR issues within libraries, and develops strategic recommendations in response.
    • Remains knowledgeable of current federal, state, local, and university laws and policies impacting library staff.
    • Provides oversight for the onboarding and ongoing professional development processes for UTA Libraries.
    • Develops and enacts strategies to ensure strong, diverse talent pipelines.
    • Creates and oversees a leadership development program for full-time staff and student employees in University Libraries to maximize employee engagement and team effectiveness.
    • Collaborates with stakeholders to advance effective communication within UTA Libraries.
    • Develops and supports programs that promote organizational morale and nurtures a culture of collaboration, service, and innovation within the Libraries.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    Required Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited program or a related graduate degree.
    • At least five (5) years of experience in a leadership role in higher education or libraries.
    • At least three (3) experience supervising full-time staff.
    • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, decision-making, problem-solving and planning skills.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • At least five (5) years of experience in a leadership role in an academic library
    • Three (3) years' experience as a department head or higher
    • Demonstrated knowledge of recruitment, retention, and staff development issues and trends in academic libraries
    • Experience with PeopleAdmin and UT Share
    • Demonstrated experience in organizational communication
    • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management
    • Professional experience in a university environment

    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel
    • Proficiency in Windows Operating System and file management
    • Ability to excel in a "perpetual beta" environment, with frequent change and intelligent risk-taking

     

    Working Conditions

    This position will include non-traditional work hours such as nights, weekends, and holidays depending on the needs of the university community. Some positions will have permanent overnight shifts. Flexibility is required to ensure the department is appropriately staffed in order to satisfy all service needs. Professional development, conferences, and training may require travel and/or overnight accommodations. Exposure to standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Manual dexterity. Light lifting and moving. The library has various locations across campus. This is a non-tenure track position.
