    Job Summary:

    The UTA Libraries' Digital Publishing Librarian oversees all aspects of producing local digital publications and making external publications accessible in support of faculty, staff, and students. This position also involves serving as an advocate for open access and associated issues pertaining to scholarly impact and communication, as a member of the Open Partnerships & Services department. This position focuses on building and supporting partnerships for research engagement with campus colleagues.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

     

    Scholarly Communication

    • Manage and promote the UTA ResearchCommons, our institutional repository, including publishing open access research articles and monographs, all Electronic Theses & Dissertations (ETDs), and Open Education Resources, ensuring that the industry standards for digital publishing are met.
    • Manage and promote open access scholarly publishing through Mavs Open Press, including our 9 existing open access journals, ensuring that the industry standards for digital publishing are met.
    • Collaborate with systems staff to ensure DSpace, Open Journal Systems, Pressbooks, and other digital service points function well, including migrating and upgrading platforms on a regular basis to ensure stability.
    • Create means for discovery and access to UTA's published materials through adherence to industry standards in metadata and unique identifiers.

    Supervision

    • Supervise a Library Specialist focused on ETDs and other publishing tasks
    • Hire, train, and supervise student assistants in digital publishing

    Liaison Duties

    • Act as subject liaison to academic department(s). This includes providing information literacy instruction, student research consultations, and faculty research support.

     

    Other Duties as Assigned

     

    Required Qualifications:

    • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited institution or related graduate degree.
    • Experience with online publishing.
    • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.
    • Proficiency in Windows Operating System and file management.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • One (1) year of experience with online publishing platforms (e.g., Open Journal Systems, DSpace, Pressbooks).
    • One (1) year of experience in one of the following areas: scholarly communication, digital project management, online publishing, or metadata.
    • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and other publication design platforms.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to engage in advanced project planning and management skills, involving designing, leading, and completing a project within its intended scope and timeline.
    • Knowledge of the research process and evolving models of scholarly communication technologies and standards used in digital publishing work.
    • Knowledge of scholarly communication issues, such as copyright and open access.
    • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds.
    • Be an advocate and ally for equity, diversity, justice, and inclusion.
    • Ability to foster a positive working environment and model the Libraries' Guiding Principles through daily actions and behaviors.
    • Effective time management skills.
    • Advanced customer experience skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, including excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written skills.
    • Ability to pay attention to detail.
    • Ability to transfer and apply knowledge and experience to new situations.
    • Ability to analyze situations and make sound decisions.
    • Ability to excel in a changing university environment.
