    Southwestern University has an immediate opening for a Head of Research and Instruction Services Librarian position. This position provides a full range of research assistance to students, faculty, and staff; leads the library's research and instruction programs, including the assessment and oversight of liaison and curriculum development. This librarian collaborates with department colleagues to continuously develop and refine the instructional program, oversee library outreach, and support communication efforts with the campus community. This is a full-time, benefited exempt position that reports to the Director of the A. Frank Smith, Jr. Library Center.

    Primary Duties:

    • Supervise reference & library bibliographic instruction services.
    • Participate in all facets of the library's research and instruction program.
    • Develop and maintain subject and course-specific online research guides.
    • Provide on-site and virtual reference service to the university community and public users.
    • Provide in-depth individual consultations for students and faculty focused on information research tools and methods.
    • Keep abreast of trends and innovation in student-centered information literacy instruction.
    • Collaborate with department colleagues to develop online tools and learning modules.
    • Manage the library's Springhare content management system.
    • Manage and provide content for the Library's social media accounts.
    • Manage library's outreach, marketing, and programming.
    • Coordinate the liaison librarian program with the library director.
    • Lead efforts to curriculum map, reviewing campus coursework to define where support is needed to promote student success.
    • Develop and sustain library instructional models based on the ACRL Information Literacy Framework.
    • Effectively complete information literacy assessment, meeting student learning objectives.
    • Develop and implement library instruction plans, and work with colleagues to improve instructional quality and student success.
    • Participate in the assessment of and curation of library resources and collections, including routine reviews of print and electronic resource materials.
    • Collect and analyze assessment data.

    Additional Duties:

    • Serve as a liaison between the library and assigned academic/campus departments.
    • Rotation of evening and weekend work as part of reference services.
    • Participate in library and University committees, appointed or elected.
    • Participate in a work culture that promotes diversity and anti-racism and actively works to eliminate or mitigate the effects of systemic racism and bias.
    • Assist the digital scholarship librarian with updates to the website.
    • Other duties or projects as assigned.

     

    Position Requirements:

    • A master's degree from an ALA-accredited library program.
    • Three to five years of professional library experience in an academic setting.
    • Demonstrated organizational skills, self-motivation, detail orientation, and diplomacy with effective interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Willingness to adhere to the University's core values.
    • Understanding of and commitment to a liberal arts education, including the ability to relate to a liberal arts faculty.
    • Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.

    Preferred Requirements

    • Previous supervisory experience.
    • Additional education in a STEM-related field.
    • Graduate degree or additional coursework in a relevant field
    • Experience with Springshare and other library software.
