    The Georgetown Public Library has a part-time library assistant position open on our Youth Services team .  Georgetown is a fast growing city located 30 miles north of Austin. 

    The position is 19 hours a week working mornings and Saturdays.  Duties include circulation, providing storytime, and helping plan and implement programs.

    Works with Senior Librarian to ensure comprehensive coverage and maintenance of the Children's Room. Performs story time programs for preschool-aged children and their caregivers.

    • Responds to requests for information and reader's advisory, assists patrons of all ages in selecting and locating material, and instructs the public in the use of Library resources and computers
    • Assists Library patrons at circulation desks with checking out books, collecting payments, creating library accounts, and hold requests.
    • Assists Children's Services Librarian to create, develop, promote, and implement programs for children, families, and teens.
    • Decorate Children's room and create monthly displays.
    • Maintains the organization and cleanliness of materials in the Children's Room and Teen areas.
    • Prepares and performs in person and virtual story time programs for preschool-aged children and their caregivers as needed.
    • Assists library patrons over the phone, email, and text.
    • Create monthly calendar of events and updates website calendar.
    • Organizes books onto book carts and shelves them as needed.
    • Regularly works weekdays, evenings, and weekends as scheduled.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education, training and Experience Guidelines

    High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of full-time experience working in a modern library to include direct customer service experience. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    Library Circulation or Reference experience preferred.

    Knowledge of:

    • Library administration, organization, and operation.
    • Library reference computer.
    • Dewy Decimal System in order to shelve and locate books.

    Skill in:

    • Using computer and various software programs.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with organizations, schools, and general public.
    • Working with adults and children.
    • Reading reports, memoranda, periodicals, journals, etc.
    • Filling out forms; taking messages.
    • Perform basic mathematical calculations to keep tally of patrons entering building, make change, and   calculating fines.
    • Responding to requests for information.

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    Valid Class C Texas driver's license

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.

    Hiring Range: $16.67 - $20.88 hourly.
