    Job Title: Assistant Director

    Annual Salary: $75,671 - $98,044
    Shift Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

    Education, Experience and Skill Requirements:
    • Master's degree in library science from an Amercian Library Association-accredited program: MLS, MLIS or MA in Library Science.
    • Seven years of progressively responsible experience as a professional librarian, including 5 years of supervisory or administrative experience.
    • Knowledge and skills of technology for libraries, including ability to operate integrated automation system (SirsiDynix Symphony preferred).
    • Ability to accomplish objectives in a team setting.
    • Good communication skills, oral and written.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Abilities to direct, organize, supervise and coordinate library personnel; to create a climate for personnel to motivate themselves through development of a sense of teamwork; to effectively administer a variety of library activities, to interact effectively with library users and staff of varying ages; to exercise discretion and independent judgement; to prepare comprehensive reports and present ideas clearly and concisely. 
    • Valid Texas Driver's License and excellent driving record. 

    Primary Job Duties:
    • Oversees and evaluates service activities at 7 branch library locations, with direct supervision of branch managers and indirectly for 165 positions.
    • Coordinates planning and implementation of technology infrastructure as well as intra-library courier service, serving as liaison with County IT.
    • Assists in development and oversight of annual budget, policies/procedures, statistical reporting, and planning activities.
    • Implements and interprets library policies for library users and staff.
    • Participates in the Library System's Administrative Leadership Team.
    • Represents the Library System at the direction of or in the absence of the Director.
    • Maintains an awareness of professional trends, methods and ethics.
    • Attends and participates in professional activities, conferences, consortiums and committees.
    • Performs other work as needed.
